Sofia is a European Patent Attorney and an Authorized Patent Attorney (Sweden) and joined Zacco in 2017, having worked in IP since 2006. She has continued to establish her credibility as a ‘go to’ attorney for Swedish clients seeking to protect their inventions in international jurisdictions, as well as assisting international clients with their prosecution of European patent applications, in the field of medical devices and systems.
Her prior experience as an in-house patent manager in a medical device company has provided her with her valuable insight into aligning product development with protection of IP rights and IP strategy development. She has extensive knowledge of novelty and FTO searches, drafting and prosecution and often contributes to legal disputes involving patents or Due Diligence investigations. Sofia also advises clients on invention evaluation and patent strategies, and assists in legal processes involving patents. Sofia works mainly in the fields of medical devices and systems, which includes medical technology, biomaterials and health care products, but also has experience from working with mechanics, manufacturing and biotechnology.
Sofia graduated with a Master of Science in Molecular Biology from Stockholm University in 1994, and a PhD. in Cell Biology from Stockholm University in 2001. She thereafter worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Karolinska Institute for five years, within the field of molecular biology and lipid metabolism. In 2006 she started as a patent engineer at Radi Medical Systems AB in Uppsala, and after a sale of the company to St. Jude Medical, advanced to the position of Patent Manager. Before joining Zacco, Sofia worked for five years at another IP firm as a patent attorney and a team manager.
Sofia is ranked as a recommended individual in the IAM Patent 1000 ranking for 2019 and 2020. Her pragmatic and insightful attitude, extensive expertise and adaptive approach places Sofia at the centre of many of her clients IP strategies.
Sofia is a member of the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (EPI), the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI), the Association of IP Professionals in Swedish Industry (SIPF), and the Association of Swedish Patent Attorneys (SPOF).
